Creating a Culture of Argument in the Classroom, 2 hrs
Honed strategies for integrating techniques of argument into our classes beyond the "argument essay" to teach students to read, criticize, analyze and create arguments daily~~reading the paper, interacting with the news, talking to friends.
Teaching How to Spot Fake News: “Fact” Vs. “Fiction”, 2 hrs
Utilizing best practices, learned and engaged in steps and checklists for analyzing information, including examples from the past and present. In response to the CT Social Studies Frameworks, guided by the National Council for Social Studies C3 and CCSS, the importance of evaluating information and promoting civic action is critical for today’s students to become the next generation of informed citizens.
Teaching with Primary Sources, 2 hrs
TPS emphasizes inquiry and utilizing primary sources to evaluate evidence, make judgments and formulate conclusions, recognized as an important components to CSSF, C3 Frameworks and Common Core. Utilized primary source documents selected and adapted specifically for educational use including photographs, manuscripts, letters, Podcasts, primary accounts and more.

Exercised teaching students important social and life skills in a respectful and encouraging manner, which encourages students to become responsible, respectful and resourceful members of their communities.
