10 Things I believe about Education...
1. Everyone’s definition of success is different, but the desire to succeed is shared.
2. School prepares people to become positive participants in society. A well-rounded curriculum includes social, emotional, health and civics education in addition to academics.
3. Outside of a student’s home environment, school is the next greatest social sphere in which they learn how to build relationships.
4. Effective teachers are always reflecting and learning. A teacher’s success is the result of the combination of efforts from members of their educational community; their students, parents, mentors, colleagues, and current research.
5. In order to be a multicultural educator, the teacher must enthusiastically and objectively immerse themselves in their students’ culture and individual realities in order to learn how to best teach them.
6. No matter what, you always have one thing in common with another person; you are both humans who experience emotions. You can always relate to the emotion they are feeling.
7. Parents/guardians play a fundamental role in the success of a student. Parent relations are crucial.
8. Perspective changes with age, as teachers we must differentiate our instruction with our students’ level of social-emotional development in mind.
9. The “achievement gap” does not exist. It is a gap of opportunity.
10. Elementary teachers provide the foundation to their student’s education and mold their outlooks towards lifelong learning and achievement.
