"Student as Teacher"
Seniors in the IB/M program are placed in one school community for the entire academic year. During the fall semester of my senior year I spent 6 hours a week observing and teaching mini lessons, similar to junior year clinic placements. However, as the semester went on I became more involved; building positive relationships with the students and taking more initiative in teaching.
During the spring semester I was full time student teaching; 6 hours a day, 5 days a week, for a total of 12 weeks. In order to meet the criteria for Elementary Education, I student taught in an ELA/Reading Intervention classroom and a Mathematics classroom. Therefore, I was fortunate to have two amazing cooperating teachers to learn from and work with! In addition, I also had the unforgettable opportunity to attend Nature's Classroom with my students as a teacher chaperone.
I will always be grateful to the Kennelly Community as a whole for welcoming me with kindness and fostering my growth as a teacher in more ways than I ever expected.
