"Teacher as Leader"
Similar to senior year, master's students are placed in one school for the academic year. There are a wide range of internships available to master students, therefore everyone is unique for the most part. For my internship I spend 18 hours a week working to implement the new CT Social Studies State Frameworks at Willington's Center Elementary School. I work primarily with the grade levels who do not have a team member trained in the new frameworks, such as second and third grade.
However, I also provide enrichment for fourth grade as well. In addition, the interns are assisting the kindergarten teachers during writer's workshop. During this time I have the pleasure to work in a Montessori based kindergarten room.
In addition to the internship, all master's students complete an Inquiry Project. I am working in a group of three to answer the question: How is student voice in writing impacted when the four dimensions of inquiry (noted in the C3 Framework for Social Studies State standards) are combines with a Writer’s Workshop approach? And the sub-question: As a result of this approach, how does student voice in writing generalize to the general education classroom writing assignments?
